Be a Garden Girl

Be a Garden Girl

I spent the greater part of last year contemplating how to be “fruitlicious.”  But then the wintery season of my soul arrived, and I stopped writing about watering and pruning and fertilizing.

Winter is hard.

The new year arrived despite my protests that I was not quite ready.  The frost was starting to settle in.  But, I wanted to hold on to Harvest time.

I must confess that I started to get lost in the pages of time as the calendar days kept mercilessly flipping by.  Thanksgiving raced to December, and December blinked into New Year’s.

My heart was on pause, but the days marched on unaware.

Slow down.  I needed to slow down.

This morning, I read Genesis 3 with the ladies who read Truth, and a verse rose up off the page and captured my attention in the midst of the noise.

And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.

How sad, I thought.  Jehovah Himself sought them out, and they hid.  They missed out on a sweet garden get together with God.

That’s when He spoke to me.

You do the same, Lyli.

He reminded me that even if its wintery outside, there is a solarium for two right inside my heart if I will but sit down for a spell with Him.

He waits for me.  I want to be a garden girl.

Something to think about…

  1. “You do the same, L…inda!” Not just Lyli!
I love this sentence, Lyli: “He reminded me that even if its wintery outside, there is a solarium for two right inside my heart if I will but sit down for a spell with Him.” A solarium. Yes, where the warmth of our heart is love from the Father and He wants to be with us. Thanks for this special reminder for I need it too.

  2. Lyli, there was just something about this post that I really loved. Of course, I love your writing, the way that you express your heart. But this post really touched me. I can relate to the *winter* that so often blinds us to the sweet moments with Jesus just waiting to happen.

I’m with you – I want to be a garden girl. Love that image, love that idea!

    GOD BLESS!

  3. Lylli, so very true that we think we can hide from God as well. Grateful this morning that He pursues us. Grateful this morning that He patiently waits for us to stop running, stop hiding & call to Him. May we each have a garden moment today!

  4. Thank you for the reminder not to hide and you words, especially these: “He reminded me that even if it is wintery outside, there is a solarium for two right inside my heart.” The warm imagery would be welcome on the balmiest of days, but after this arctic vortex, it is especially clear.

  5. I want to be a garden girl, too, Lyli. I love that the Lord used a verse you’ve probably read many times to catch your attention afresh. That’s why I like to stay in the Word too. He always brings up fresh things for us to see in this season of life. May we both enjoy long walks in the garden with Him!

  6. a solarium for two . . . you have such warmth abiding there ya know? The desire to hear him is all it takes for the manifestation of his spirit. And you express that well.

  7. Yes, I am thinking about this, Lyli. I think I often do the same–hide. And yet, He keeps seeking me, wooing me out into the garden. Lovely thoughts today, friend.

  8. Well that is thought provoking. I want to be a garden girl too! I’ve begun reading the Bible from the beginning this year and I’m loving my time with Him in the morning. The Book of Genesis…good stuff! 🙂
    Much love to you,
    Beth

  9. oh, Lyli,
I want to be God’s garden girl with you….So grateful, God pursues us even when we hide, and I know I have, but I am always so glad when I let myself be found by Him…blessings on the new year, my friend 🙂

  10. I found your post at Spiritual Sundays…so glad I did! my mind is often racing, I am sure that I would not hear God walking in the garden. What a missed opportunity. I often ask God to make His presence know to me, but I don’t take the time to listen. I love the idea of being a “garden girl”.
