He Holds My Hand

Once upon a time there lived a girl named Controller. She loved to put everything into place neatly and completely mark off her to-do list. Her favorite action words were lead, order, and decide.

On the outside, she appeared courageous and confident. But she wore a mask  of bravado.  A gnawing fear way down in her gut warned her that a big boulder would drop in on her tidy little world and wreak havoc on her picture perfect life.

Once before, an avalanche had crashed into her path, and she wanted to believe with all her heart that it would never happen again.

And so she walked brashly along the winding road singing her own song and enjoying the sunshine for many moons.

And then one day, the rain poured down hard and heavy. Nothing on the horizon had prepared her for this onslaught. The wind blew so fiercely that she could not stand.

On the ground in the midst of the mud and mire, she looked up and cried out for help.

Quietly, she felt a Presence beside her. He reached for her hand, and she surrendered her will to His. Her Champion picked her up and carried her through an overwhelming wall of opposition.

Hand in hand, they pierced through the darkness and despair to the other side.

A song of praise now fills her frame.

Are you struggling to stand right now?

  • Look up and listen for His tender voice in the storm.
  • Surrender the path to your Savior. He knows the way better than you do.
  • Choose to sing a song of praise. It helps dispel the darkness.

He will hold your hand all the way home.

Look up and Listen

Something to think about…

Friends: I am praising God for reminding me again, again, and again that He was holding my hand these last two weeks during the time my man was battling pneumonia. Thank you for praying with us and for us. He is home now, but still needs healing.

  1. This is beautiful, Lyli, and applicable in so many ways. Thank you for being vulnerable and always sharing your heart. XOXO my friend.

  2. Lyli, using a picture such as these words draw make the message so clear. I think I need to try to read “Pilgrim’s Progress’ again as I so struggled with that book years ago. Thanks for this post today.

  3. I’m glad your husband is doing better, Lyli. I was wondering about that yesterday. How wonderful to know that Jesus holds our hand and leads us forward through every trial.

  4. Lyli, I loved this post because I have been digging into & picking apart Psalm 37 for about a week. Thank you for sharing your thoughts & speaking to my heart this morning. I am so grateful Bruce is on the mend & continue to pray for complete healing for him & strength for you! xo

  5. I loved your allegorical tale. And I can relate, as I try so hard to *control* things myself. Almost entirely it stems from my efforts to quell my anxiety. Fear can be such a terrible taskmaster. Lately I’ve got some situations in my family that have me holding on to the Lord’s hand so tightly. If it weren’t for His presence, I am sure that I would fall. He is indeed The Champion.

So glad to hear that you and your husband are now home. What an ordeal. Prayers for quick and uncomplicated healing.

    GOD BLESS!

  6. Lyli, I’m glad your husband is home now and I hope his recovery is full and not lengthy. Like you, I’m so thankful for those songs of praise that fill our frames at just the right times … our heavenly Father knows exactly the kind of comfort we need, doesn’t He?

  7. i was wondering how your man was – so thankful he made it through the fog of sickness. always scary. bless you, friend.
ps isn’t that all our names? controller? at least, women??
PS please pray big for my retreat this fri-sun – speaking 4x to a great group of Presbyterians! in the Redwoods (but at a Hilton… (: on Spiritual Growth – which makes me feel quite inadequate – which I am – so that’s good. thank you thank you.

  8. Dear Lyli,

So grateful God was with you and Bruce. I pray Bruce heals completely and I pray you’ve recovered from your cold. Praying God continues to sustain you both…((hugs))

  9. Lyli, I love how you told this story of your recent trial. I think at some time or another many of us could identify with it. Our circumstances might be different but the “story” is the same. Thank you for sharing in this way. I pray that your husband will continue to improve and that you can also find rest as this trial continues. How blessed we are to have a God who loves and cares! Blessings to you, dear sister. <3
