In a Fog

In a fogΒ  God and I had a “moment” last week.Β  My husband and I drove 12 hours straight from Florida to North Carolina.Β  What a crazy ride!Β  Part of the morning was foggy — picture Gotham city in a Batman movie.Β  The road ahead disappeared from view, and we drove on for several miles in faith — the path was unclear.Β  Not fun at all!Β  Thankfully, after a while, the sun broke through.Β Β  The fog had been a temporary, mysteriousΒ  inconvenience on our journey.

The next morning, I decided to get up early and plop down in a comfy rocking chair on my sister in law’s lovely porch with my Bible and my journal.Β  Again, the fog surfaced.Β  All I saw in front of me was a white blanket of nothingness.Β  Rather than resign myself to the sadness of the situation, I decided to stick it out and sit for a spell.Β  I spent some quiet moments in worship — reading, praying, and writing down about God’s abundant blessings found in His Word.Β Β  I chose to “wait it out” so to speak, and later that morning, I was rewarded.Β  The fog rolled slowly back, and behind it a mountain decked out in fall splendor appeared.Β  Color burst forth everywhere I looked.Β  It was in that magnificent moment that God spoke to me — You see, so much of life we seem to spend “in a fog” — the path ahead is hidden from view, and our present circumstances don’t pose a portrait we like.Β  That morning, sitting on the porch, God whispered to me — “My daughter, there is always beauty waiting behind the fog.Β  Just wait and rest in me.”

I don’t know what fog you are presently experiencing in your life, but rest assured, our Father has something magnificent ahead. Β  “Your eyes will see the King in His beauty; you will see a vast land” (Isaiah 33:17, HCSB). Β  Your mountain view is coming.Β  Wait and see.

  1. I LOVE this! What a beautiful metaphor and visual picture of our path in life, L. Just this morning as I lay in bed, before getting up, I asked the Lord to give my husband and I a little sign of hope or direction for something we are praying through right now. I do feel that fog surround us and know that soon it will be lifted by the hand of our mighty God to reveal a wonderful, vast land. What a beautiful promise. Thank you!
