How to Overcome Worry as You Pray Big

I wish I could tell you that while I sit in the waiting room I am peacefully at rest, but that is not the case. I want to overcome worry, but instead I get overwhelmed.

I am not good at waiting. I guess because I grew up in the age of microwaves and instant everything.

I want to be a woman of faith who prays and trusts God with the unknown. I desperately wish I could live peacefully at rest, but that is often not the case.

In actuality, I am more of a Sara type. I want to make things happen at any cost.

I think God needs my help.

I know He is the Savior of the world in my head, but sometimes that doesn’t drop down to my heart. So, I come up with contingency plans.

I think about what I can do differently and say better in hopes of changing things. I worry and wrestle and work myself into a frenzy.

But then He puts me in a corner where I am helpless, and all of my scheming is unveiled.

He leaves me bare, and I realize that my way is lifeless.

When I demand my way, I end up with nothing.

I end up in the exact spot I feared to enter.

There in the darkness, I realize that I am not alone. He speaks to me tenderly.  He woos me to His side with words of compassion. He picks me up and lifts me out of the mire.

I lift up empty hands to Him and hope blooms again.

Maybe you are like me — reluctant to trust Him with everything. Maybe you have schemed and tried to save yourself.

If you’ve landed in a dark place, I want to remind you that you don’t have to stay there. You can offer up your pain and brokenness to Him.

You don’t have to be a Sara type.

Let’s choose differently. We can pray big and believe.

Let’s let go of our worry and worship. Let’s lay down shattered dreams and offer them up to Him.

We can choose to love Him with reckless abandon day and night.

We will persist in praise.

Together let’s keep looking forward with hope because He alone is our salvation.

Let’s Pray Big and Overcome Worry

God will calm you down as you pray.

The enemy of our souls wants us to live overwhelmed by anxiety, but our God is able to do anything. As we spend time in His presence, He comforts our souls and reminds us He is in control.

  • Whenever my busy thoughts were out of control, nthe soothing comfort of Your presence calmed me down and overwhelmed me with delight.”  (Psalm 94:19, TPT)

God helps strengthen you as you trust Him with your troubles.

We were never meant to carry these burdens alone. God is all-powerful, and we must lean on Him. He will empower us for what lies ahead as we cry out to Him and ask for His assistance.

  • So here’s what I’ve learned through it all: Leave all your cares and anxieties at the feet of the Lord, and measureless grace will strengthen you.” (Psalm 55:22, TPT)

God will step in as your hiding place and help as you surrender all.

Friend, you do not fight alone. You have a Defender, and He is surrounding you with songs of deliverance. Nothing can destroy you because God is your refuge.

  • For when I was desperate, overwhelmed, and about to give up, You were the only one there to help. You gave me a way of escape from the hidden traps of my enemies…So I cried out to You, Lord, my only hiding place. You’re all I have, my only hope in this life, my last chance for help.” (Psalm 142:3, 5)

As we pray big, God fills our hearts with wonder and help us overcome worry.

Only God dismantles strongholds and softens hard hearts.

Only God creates beauty out of brokenness.

Only God restores and redeems the desolate and desperate.

His miracles will unravel as we watch and pray.

Let’s stand strong in the gap for one another and expect God is going to do something spectacular.

We overcome worry as we pray big and worship our Almighty God.

Introducing the Pray Big Sisterhood:

Every morning, I wake up and lift my heart to God in prayer.

I praise Him for His glory and goodness.

I surrender my agenda and expectations to His greater kingdom purposes.

I yield my desires to do His will.

And, then I ask for Him to move a mountain.

I cry out to Him for that mountain to crumble.

I believe that God is bigger than any obstacle or stronghold.

Yet, my mountain remains — immovable and unyielding.

Do you have a mountain?   I bet you do.

Like me, you may be discouraged by the darkness that looms large in your view.

You aren’t alone. If we sat down today in my kitchen and shared our stories, I bet we would see similarities.

Together, we would ask God to move two mountains.

With worshipful hearts, let’s keep crying out to the Lord for those mountains to crumble.

Let’s pray big!

  1. Oh friend, I tend to be a “fixer” as well. I try to fix everything from circumstances to other people. What an exercise in futility it is and also so exhausting! I need a vacation from myself! God help me to trust Him and to keep my hands off what is His job to do.
